My 3 favourite ‘Clone’ Fragrances currently…

You might know the one on the left, but this is the EDP version!

Is it ‘cool’ to have a ‘clone’ fragrance or do you only respect owning the original as a salute for the creative artistry? I personally don’t mind owning clones when companies give alternatives to expensive fragrances that are potentially overpriced!

Here are three fragrance clones I think you should know about, preference being in no particular order…

3 - Rasasi Al Wisam Day

The presentation looks decent but feels cheap!

Al Wisam Day is a clone to Creed’s Silver Mountain Water (SMW). SMW is primarily a green tea and ‘metallic’ fragrance (hence the name!), creating this ‘cooling’ and ‘refreshing’ scent DNA.

Al Wisam day is 95% identical in my opinion and that’s only because the last 5% is modified by Al Wisam adding in its own subtle Rose note which takes this to the next level! SMW lasts for 10 hours while this lasts 8.

My conclusion is that I actually prefer Al Wisam Day and it makes me wonder if SMW is worth the hefty price tag.

2 - Ard Al Zafaran’s Oud 24 Hours

This is a clone of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid, which is a dark & sweet unisex fragrance that leans a tad feminine for me. Oud 24 hours smells more masculine actually, hurrah! It is 85% similar on skin but 90% in the air!

It isn't as ‘dense’ or luxurious smelling as Black Orchid but I feel this is actually easier to wear casually! I describe it as a chocolate and vanilla woody fragrance.

I don’t think there’s any oud here at all and it lasts 8 hours not 24! However, with all this in mind this is insane value for money when you’re only spending £12/$15 for this!

1 - Club de Nuit Intense Man EDP

The presentation and atomiser could definitely be better…

The presentation and atomiser could definitely be better…

The original Club de nuit intense man EDT is already a legendary top seller for Armaf for being a Creed Aventus clone. For 1/10th of the price you got a 90% similar fragrance to Aventus!

The two gripes that people had with the EDT was its harsh lemon opening and it’s reduced performance since reformulation.

Good news, the EDP fixes both of these things! Performance is back up to 10 hours with a decent amount of projection. The blend is also more ‘smooth’, doing away with the harsh opening, although obviously this still isn’t Aventus quality! But still, I would definitely recommend the EDP of club de nuit now over the EDT.

Finishing Thoughts

These are only a few of my favourites for now, there are obviously a tonne of clones out there in the market and they seem to multiply in number every day! What are your thoughts on clones and what are some ones that you think too many people sleep on?

Until next time,

Omar
